Frequently Asked Questions
POOL CONSTRUCTION
The first step in the pool construction process is an onsite visit from a Liquid Assets pools expert. During this consultative session, we’ll learn about your needs, preferences, and budget so we can create a pool design that brings your vision to life.
The average time it takes to build a concrete inground pool is 8–12 weeks, including permitting, planning, and finishing touches, but project duration is always subject to weather conditions and material availability.
When you work with Liquid Assets, we will take care of obtaining all necessary permits for your pool installation project.
Every project is different! Depending on the type of pool you want to install and your desired finishes (plus other outdoor living elements), the total cost to bring your outdoor oasis to life is variable. Our projects usually range from $75,000–$400,000+.

Yes, St. Louis County requires a swimming pool permit for all swimming pool, spa, and hot tub installations. Liquid Assets will handle all permitting requirements on your behalf when you partner with us.
Missouri state law requires all pools deeper than 26 inches to have a fence. The fence must be at least 4 feet tall, gated, and impossible for children to climb through. The gate must be self-closing and self-latching, and open away from the pool. Property owners who don’t follow this requirement may be fined, face legal action, or be legally liable for any resulting injuries.
While Missouri state law requires a fence for all pools deeper than 26 inches, regulations vary across communities whether you need a separate pool safety fence if you have a fenced in backyard. Our team knows local codes and we’ll guide you in building an outdoor space that satisfies regulations; plus, we’ll obtain all necessary permits and permissions on your behalf.
CHOOSING YOUR POOL
Concrete (gunite) pools can’t be beat when it comes to longevity. While gunite costs more to install compared to vinyl or fiberglass pools, it lasts for decades and adds the most value to your home.

It depends on the size of your backyard and what purpose you want your pool to serve. If your primary goal is relaxation and aesthetic appeal, a smaller pool may suit your needs. For lap swimming or larger gatherings, a bigger pool is better. When you work with us, we will also check with your local zoning laws and homeowner’s association guidelines to ensure your pool size and placement complies with regulations.
The average lifespan of an in-ground pool is 20 to 30 years depending on the material used.
POOL COSTS
Average annual expenses for pool maintenance range from $1,200 to $3,000 for cleaning, chemicals, and minor repairs. Additional costs may include energy usage for heating and filtration, as well as any necessary repairs or equipment replacements. However, investing in energy-efficient systems and regular upkeep can help manage long-term costs.
A pool can add an average of $100 to $200+ to your monthly expenses, which includes costs for electricity, water, chemicals, and routine maintenance. This amount can increase depending on factors like heating, repairs, and whether you perform maintenance yourself or hire a team like ours to take care of it for you.
While a pool can increase property value, the return on investment typically won’t fully cover the installation cost. However, in the right circumstances—such as in high-end neighborhoods where pools are common, or when designed as a premium feature—a pool can be a strong selling point that attracts buyers and adds to your home’s appeal. If you plan to stay in your home for several more years or decades, then the personal enjoyment and lifestyle enhancement can outweigh the installation cost.
Yes, a pool can use a significant amount of electricity, primarily due to the pump, which typically runs 8-12 hours a day, and any additional features like heaters, lighting, or automated cleaning systems. On average, pool-related electricity usage can add $30 to $150 or more to your monthly utility bill, depending on your location, pool size, and equipment efficiency.
